Every Celtics Fan Should Hate Kyrie Irving With A Burning Passion
I held off on this for a few days since we almost reverse-swept the Heat in last year's ECF but now that things are set in stone, it's time to get serious because Public Enemy Number 1 is about to return to TD Garden like Anakin Skywalker when he rose from the ashes to return as Darth Vader.
Listen, I get why all the casual viewers are hoping for this Hollywood scripted ending where Kyrie Irving, who quit on the Celtics, thought he was more important than everyone else on the team, and blamed the fans and the organization for his shortcomings, ends up hoisting the Larry O'Brien at The Garden. That would crush my pretty little heart while the rest of the world laughs because nobody wants to see us win another chip no matter what sport. Boston is still the City of Champions but that's a conversation for another time. Today I'm here to explain the axe I have to grind with this douche.
The root of my hatred for Kyrie lies in a series of broken promises. After the controversial trade that sent prime Isaiah Thomas to the Cavs, Irving tried buttering up to Boston fans and filmed a Nike commercial insinuating he was the organization's next Larry Bird. Incredibly distasteful. He also butted heads with Jaylen Brown in the locker room and trashed the team in interviews, blaming everyone but himself for his mishaps. Now I was willing to overlook the shenanigans because of his pure athletic talent but then he did the unforgivable. During a season ticket holder event in October 2018, Irving declared his desire to re-sign with Boston long-term. “If you guys will have me back, I plan on re-signing here.” Only problem was he and KD were secretly hatching a plan to leave their teams and join the Nets the entire time.
Listen, I'll never knock a guy for doing what he feels is best for himself financially. But if you are unhappy and know you have no intention of returning, don't give a false commitment. Especially not to the organization that took a chance on you after you burned all bridges with the Cavs.
Kyrie Irving reminds me of a less psychotic but more annoying version of Antonio Brown. At least AB can blame CTE, Kyrie is just a scumbag. Remember when he burned sage courtside in his return to TD Garden and claimed it was to protect him from the racists in Boston?
Or when he stomped on Lucky in the first round of the playoffs?
Or when he told all of Boston to "suck my d**k?"
I certainly don't forget. And when Jrue Holiday and the Celtics shut down crybaby Luka Doncic in game 7 and Kyrie throws a temper tantrum that gets him kicked off yet ANOTHER team, I'll be sitting back with my buttered popcorn telling everyone I knew this would happen all along.
